Abstract

The Centro di Ricerca Progetto San Marco is a research centre of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". It has been established in 1993; it is organized like a department and represents the continuation of the San Marco Project (PSM) born in 1962. CRPSM, since 1997 is involved, by means of it equatorial station located in Kenya (Malindi), in the acquisition of ERS satellite images. Since 1999 the SeaWiFS and NOAA images have been regularly acquired whereas the acquisition of MODIS images started in 2003. Since 2003 has been acquiring the images of the SEVIRI sensor . The Centre is involved in the field of the applications based on remotely sensed data arriving at developing innovative algorithms (to estimate the surface temperature, to detect fires, to automatize the detection of given objects by using satellite images), in the remote sensing mission design and in the support of operations for scientific and technological programmes by means of its Telemetry, Tracking, & Command Stations.
