About Us
The SSE portal, as part of the
eoPortal
web site, is sponsored and run by the European Space Agency.
It provides links to many information sources, with the objective to:
- facilitate access to EO data from ESA and other missions,
- increase sustainability of EO data provision, by widening the range of offered data sources,
- make the operations of EO missions more efficient.
With the SSE, ESA empowers its ground segment with a service support dimension based on the identification of a set of common EO related standards and the provision of a neutral services infrastructure, capable to foster the seamless integration of EO archives, products and services, to facilitate the set up of open operational services for Earth Observation in Europe.
The SSE supports service providers in setting up their services mainly empowering cooperation and business relationships among them. The SSE allows to automate the steps traditionally executed on the basis of manual interactions, which become a burden when the service approaches an operational status and the same tasks have to be repeated for tens or hundreds of time. The SSE allows the integration of wide range of heterogeneous EO and GIS services including catalogues of products.
Advantages for Service Providers:
- maintain full control on their own infrastructure
- reduction in service set up and demo costs
- reduction in the time to market
- enabling to combine and chain service elements within the supply chain
- easy reuse of generic or basic services
- reduction in the burden to set up a service you may concentrate the efforts on your specific skills and added value
- broaden and improve existing services
Advantages for users:
- Single portal for wide range of services that are closer to the user’s expectations.
