BROADCASTING AFRICA

Type(s) 1. Data and Information provision services
Satellite Image Dissemination
Abstract The "Broadcasting Africa" service is offered to duly authorized Cat-1 users (considered as Data providers) to disseminate their EO products to their end-users based in Africa. Through this service EO data - from ESA and Third Party missions - can be made directly available to centres of excellence where it can be immediately exploited.
The services relies on the ESA satellite-based Earth Observation Data Dissemination System (DDS).
The DDS is currently based on three uplink stations located at Kiruna (Sweden) and ESRIN (Italy), plus a growing park of more than 50 operational receiving stations spread over Africa but also Europe and South America.
To use the service, Cat-1 Data providers have to upload first their products on a FTPS account, where some basic checks will be performed (i.e. file size, format ).
The products will be visible then on the SSE service interface, where the African receiving stations are selectable and request for dissemination can finally be submitted to the DDS. The service ensures that only files from authorized users are disseminated via the DDS system.
Cat-1 users who want to become Data provider and use this service must contact EOHELP.
Non Cat-1 users will be requested first to submit a Cat-1 proposal to EOPI, to eventually become eligible for using the service.
